Identity theft, the fastest growing crime in the country, is the taking of a victim's identity to obtain credit, credit cards from banks and retailers, steal money from accounts, apply for loans, establish accounts with utility companies, or rent an apartment. As soon as you are made aware of the fraud, contact the police immediately.  We will guide you in contacting the three major credit-reporting agencies to put a fraud alert on your credit profile. Generally, the victims of this type of fraud are responsible for only the first $50, provided they notify the proper agencies promptly.

Tips to protect your privacy and limit your exposure to this crime:  Don't put checks in your home mailbox; drop them off at the post office.  Do not put your social security number on your checks or credit receipts.  Do not enter your credit card account number on the Internet unless it is a secured site.  Monitor all your bank statements from every credit card every month for fraudulent charges.
